There is a reason why people love walking on the beach or hiking in the woods. We tap into a deeper sense of awareness in nature. It is an opportunity to get away from things that distract us from really seeing. When I am in nature, I see beauty in the simplicity of textures, shapes, and colors. I have been called a minimalist, but I am fascinated with the ethereal qualities of impressionism and the emotional response of expressionism.
For inspiration, I hike, kayak, and bike along the coast and in the mountains with my pinhole camera and sketchbook. Back in the studio, my paintings typically begin with highly textured surfaces that depict maps, topography, or terrain. My goal as an artist is to deepen people’s connection to nature and inspire them to unplug and get outside.
All of my paintings are created with professional grade paints, mediums, and surfaces. I take great care in using only archival materials and finish my paintings with varnish to protect them for generations. My pinhole photographs are giclee prints on fine art paper. I use archival inks that are rated to last 400 years. If you are interested in acquiring one of my pieces, send me an email. I look forward to meeting you.
